Saber Astronautics Releases Saber Commander for Spacecraft and Constellation Control

Saber Astronautics has launched Saber Commander, a new software platform for spacecraft and constellation operations, expanding on its earlier digital twin and machine learning system, PIGI.

Saber Astronautics announced in a press release the release of Saber Commander, a software platform for spacecraft and constellation operations. The platform extends the foundation of the company’s earlier Predictive Ground station Interface, known as PIGI, which introduced digital twin and machine learning tools for satellite monitoring and diagnostics.

Originally developed in 2010 and released two years later, PIGI became the first system globally to apply machine learning techniques to spacecraft diagnostics. It helped spacecraft operators identify root causes of health anomalies and was recognized by NASA as a Spinout. The technology also contributed to the company’s Space Battle Management System, accepted by the US Space Force.

Saber Commander was developed with input from the company’s operators in its Responsive Space Operations Centres in Australia and the United States. The software supports complex constellations and incorporates automation, visualization, and monitoring functions aimed at improving situational awareness and reducing operator workload. Saber Astronautics currently manages over 36 tonnes of spacecraft in orbit, experience that informed the design of the new platform.
