RIVANNA Secures $9.92 Million from BARDA for AI Module Development

July 31, 2025
RIVANNA has received $9.92 million from BARDA to accelerate the development of its CADe/x AI module for the Accuro XV platform, enhancing fracture and soft tissue injury detection.

RIVANNA has been awarded $9.92 million in federal funding from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to expedite the development of its CADe/x AI module for the Accuro XV platform, announced in a press release. This funding is part of a contractual option under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The CADe/x AI module is designed to automate the detection of anatomical abnormalities and assist in diagnosing bone fractures. This development builds on previous work under the BARDA contract, which focused on advancing computer-aided detection technologies. The module aims to improve the visualization and classification of bone structures in ultrasound images, helping healthcare providers diagnose fractures and soft tissue injuries more efficiently.

The funding will support multi-site clinical data acquisition and expedite the development of AI technology for fracture and soft tissue abnormality detection. The Accuro XV platform, which incorporates the CADe/x module, is expected to enhance clinical decision-making by providing AI-enabled decision assistance for fracture triage, reducing the need for X-rays and extensive training.
