Reddit Seeks to Remove Perplexity's Law Firm From Data Scraping Case

Reddit asked a federal judge to block Proskauer Rose from representing Perplexity AI in its data scraping lawsuit, citing the firm's previous work for Reddit.

Reddit asked a federal judge to block its former law firm Proskauer Rose from defending Perplexity AI in its lawsuit alleging Perplexity stole Reddit content, Reuters reports. In a filing in Manhattan federal court, Reddit said Proskauer has a conflict of interest because of its past work for Reddit in a whistleblower case, and that the firm had earlier vowed it would not represent Perplexity.

"Proskauer cannot drop Reddit like a hot potato in favor of Perplexity," Reddit said in its filing.

In its own filing, Proskauer said its work for Reddit did not create a conflict that should bar it from representing Perplexity, and denied ever agreeing not to do so. Reddit sued last year, alleging Perplexity illegally scraped its forums for data for its answer engine. Perplexity has denied Reddit's copyright infringement claims.
