PayPal Integrates Payments Into ChatGPT Through Partnership With OpenAI
PayPal will integrate its payment services into OpenAI’s ChatGPT, enabling users to complete purchases directly within the chat interface, announced in a press release. The company will adopt OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) to connect its global network of merchants to ChatGPT, expanding commerce options for both consumers and businesses.
Starting in 2026, ChatGPT users will be able to use PayPal’s Instant Checkout feature to confirm orders and make payments without leaving the chat. PayPal will process payments for merchants through its delegated payments API, supporting card transactions and providing buyer and seller protections, as well as post-purchase services like tracking and dispute resolution.
Tens of millions of PayPal merchants across categories such as apparel, beauty, home improvement, and electronics will have their product catalogs automatically accessible in ChatGPT. PayPal will manage merchant routing, payment validation, and orchestration without requiring individual integrations.
In addition to the commerce collaboration, PayPal is expanding its internal use of OpenAI technology by providing ChatGPT Enterprise access to its 24,000 employees and integrating OpenAI’s Codex tools to assist engineering teams.
