OpenText Survey Finds Rising Confidence in Ransomware Recovery Amid Growing AI Threats

November 03, 2025
OpenText's 2025 Global Ransomware Survey shows that while 95% of organizations feel prepared to recover from ransomware, AI-driven attacks and weak governance are exposing major vulnerabilities.

OpenText has released its 2025 Global Ransomware Survey, revealing a widening gap between organizational confidence and actual resilience against ransomware, announced in a press release. The survey of nearly 1,800 security professionals found that 95% of respondents are confident in their ability to recover from ransomware, yet only 15% of those attacked fully recovered their data.

The report highlights that AI is reshaping the threat landscape, with 52% of organizations experiencing increased phishing or ransomware activity linked to AI and 44% reporting deepfake-style impersonation attempts. Despite 88% allowing employees to use generative AI tools, fewer than half have formal AI governance policies.

Supply chain vulnerabilities also remain a critical factor, with 25% of ransomware incidents originating from software vendors. Forty percent of companies reported being attacked in the past year, and nearly half of those victims faced multiple incidents. Among those affected, 45% paid a ransom, with 30% paying $250,000 or more.

The findings indicate that ransomware is now viewed as a top business risk, with 71% of executives ranking it among their top three concerns. Organizations plan to prioritize cloud security, backup technologies, and user training in 2026 to strengthen defenses against increasingly sophisticated, AI-driven cyber threats.
