OpenAI's planned AI smart speaker will be a doughnut shaped, hockey puck sized device priced above $300, according to Bloomberg. The product is slated for release in 2027 and is designed to be carried around the home or placed on surfaces such as a nightstand or kitchen counter.

Earlier information described the company's first hardware product as a smart speaker. The device will have speaker grilles, microphones, lights that show when it is listening, cameras, and other sensors for environmental input.

The device was designed with Jony Ive's LoveFrom studio and is expected to use high quality metal. It will include moving parts that respond during interaction, and OpenAI has discussed pricing of $300 to $400 per unit.

The device is tied to an ongoing case with Apple Inc., which sued OpenAI over alleged trade secret theft in July. Apple's suit cites a metal finishing technique for an upcoming product, while OpenAI denies using Apple trade secrets.
