OpenAI Reaches 400 Million Weekly Users Amid Growing Competition
OpenAI has reached a significant milestone, now serving 400 million weekly active users, marking a 33% increase from the 300 million users reported in December 2024, according to CNBC. This growth comes despite rising competition from other AI models, such as DeepSeek.
The company has also seen substantial growth in its enterprise segment, with 2 million paying enterprise users, doubling since September 2024. OpenAI's developer traffic has similarly doubled over the past six months, as developers increasingly integrate OpenAI's technology into their applications.
OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, highlighted the "natural progression" of ChatGPT as it becomes more useful and familiar to a broader audience. He noted that the consumer adoption of ChatGPT often leads to enterprise adoption, as employees suggest the tool to their companies. This organic growth is likened to the adoption of cloud services, with AI becoming an essential component for businesses.
