OpenAI has signed a historic $300 billion cloud computing deal with Oracle Corporation, marking one of the largest contracts in the industry, according to the Wall Street Journal. This agreement will see OpenAI purchasing computing power over a span of five years, starting in 2027.

The deal is expected to significantly boost Oracle's revenue, as the company revealed it added $317 billion in future contract revenue during its latest quarter. Oracle's shares surged by 42% following the announcement, increasing the wealth of Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison by over $100 billion.

This partnership reflects OpenAI's strategy to diversify its cloud computing resources, having previously moved away from exclusively using Microsoft Azure. The collaboration is part of OpenAI's broader efforts to secure substantial computing power for its AI initiatives, including its involvement in the Stargate Project, which aims to invest heavily in domestic data center projects.
