Oakland Tech Week Opens With Focus on Responsible AI

Oakland Tech Week 2026 features more than 80 events focused on responsible AI, technology education, arts and community development.

The City of Oakland said in a press release that Oakland Tech Week 2026 opened at the Kapor Center on September 28. The opening event included a keynote from Federal Reserve Board member Lisa D. Cook and sessions on responsible innovation.

Produced by HiiiWAV, the festival runs from September 27 to October 3 under the theme "Culture, Code, and Community." Its program includes more than 80 events hosted by over 30 Oakland organizations, with a focus on responsible AI, technology education, arts and community development.

Scheduled events include discussions on ethical computer science, AI education and technology funding, with speakers including Timnit Gebru and Safiya Noble. The closing HiiiWAV Fest on October 3 will feature hackathons, a community technology fair and a performance by E-40 with The Soul Slappers.
