Nota AI and Renesas Collaborate on Driver Monitoring AI for Microcontrollers

Nota AI has partnered with Renesas Electronics to develop an optimized Driver Monitoring System for the RA8P1 microcontroller, achieving real-time performance with low power consumption.

Nota AI has announced a collaboration with Renesas Electronics to deliver an optimized Driver Monitoring System (DMS) for Renesas' newly launched RA8P1 microcontroller. Announced in a press release, this partnership aims to enable scalable, real-time driver behavior analysis in embedded systems, particularly in automotive environments where size and power constraints are critical.

The RA8P1 microcontroller features Arm Cortex-M85 and Cortex-M33 cores, along with the Arm Ethos-U55 NPU, allowing for high-performance AI in a compact form. Nota AI's DMS solution, optimized for the RA8P1, achieves approximately 50 frames per second, a significant benchmark for real-time monitoring. This is powered by Nota AI's proprietary AI model optimization platform, NetsPresso, which delivers lightweight, deployment-ready models for a range of Renesas hardware.

The collaboration was highlighted at the Embedded Vision Summit 2025, where Nota AI showcased its high-capacity crowd counting solution optimized for the RZ/V2H microprocessor. This ongoing partnership between Nota AI and Renesas aims to enable high-efficiency edge AI for the next generation of driver assistance and public safety applications, with the optimized DMS solution for RA8P1 available starting July 2025.
