MongoDB releases version 9.0 and previews Atlas Infinite

MongoDB 9.0 is generally available with performance and security updates, while Atlas Infinite enters public preview on AWS with separate scaling for compute and storage.

MongoDB announced in a press release that MongoDB 9.0 is generally available and Atlas Infinite is in public preview. Version 9.0 serves as the new engine for MongoDB Atlas, Enterprise Advanced, and Community Edition.

MongoDB says version 9.0 provides up to 35% faster findOne queries, up to 30% faster updateOne queries, and up to twice the throughput on large instances compared with version 8.0. It also adds more search options for encrypted data, expanded private networking, workload management, improved backup and recovery, and enhanced OpenTelemetry support.

Atlas Infinite separates compute from storage so each can scale independently for applications and AI agents with unpredictable demand. It uses existing Atlas drivers, APIs, security controls, and operational tools without requiring application code changes. The service is available on Amazon Web Services, with pricing based on compute and storage consumption, while the existing Atlas service is being renamed Atlas Core.
