Milestone Systems Introduces XProtect App Platform and New BriefCam Analytics Engine

Milestone Systems has introduced major updates to its XProtect video management software and BriefCam analytics, announced in a press release. The company unveiled the XProtect App Platform, a new containerized application platform, and a redesigned BriefCam analytics engine built to enhance scalability, reliability, and AI integration.

The XProtect App Platform allows users to add new video management and analytics applications without disrupting live operations. Built on a Linux-based container architecture, each application runs independently, enabling updates and installations without system downtime. The platform supports integration of AI, analytics, and access control tools while maintaining compatibility with existing XProtect installations.

The new BriefCam engine offers improved real-time processing and workflow efficiency, delivering a 38% increase in throughput based on internal testing. It enables investigators to perform natural-language searches, identify key moments from large video datasets, and train the system with custom categorizations. All analytics processing can be run on-premise, ensuring data control without cloud dependencies.

Milestone is also launching a Developer Portal and expanding its App Center to streamline the creation and distribution of third-party solutions for the open platform. The XProtect App Platform and new BriefCam engine are available now for early access customers, with general availability expected by late 2026.
