Microsoft to Invest $10 Billion in AI Data Hub in Portugal
Microsoft will invest $10 billion in an artificial intelligence data hub in Sines, Portugal, according to Bloomberg. The project will be developed with Start Campus, British AI infrastructure company Nscale, and NVIDIA.
The investment will support the construction of a large-scale data center park in Sines, about 150 kilometers south of Lisbon. The facility will include six buildings, one of which is already operational. Microsoft plans to deploy 12,600 next-generation NVIDIA GPUs to expand its computing capacity for AI workloads.
The Sines site has become a strategic hub due to its subsea cable connections linking Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Microsoft had previously secured a multi-year lease at the location and is now entering the next development phase to meet rising demand for AI and cloud services.
Start Campus is also advancing its own €8.5 billion infrastructure plan in the region, aimed at accommodating major technology and AI companies by 2030.
