Mercedes-Benz Partners with Liquid AI to Bring Embedded Intelligence to Cars in North America
Mercedes-Benz has announced a multi-year partnership with Liquid AI: Build capable and efficient general-purpose AI systems at every scale. to integrate embedded, on-device intelligence into its vehicles in North America. The collaboration was announced in a press release and is focused on enhancing the next generation of the MBUX Virtual Assistant through improved speech and reasoning capabilities.
The partnership will use Liquid AI’s Liquid Foundation Models (LFM) to deliver local, private, and efficient conversational intelligence without relying on cloud connectivity. This integration will support more natural interaction between driver and vehicle by processing speech directly within the car. The system is built on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and targets its first production deployment in the second half of 2026.
According to the companies, the initiative will bring essential components of the voice interaction stack on board, covering speech recognition, language understanding, and reasoning capabilities. Liquid AI’s low-footprint models are designed to operate on existing vehicle hardware, supporting low latency and consistent performance in everyday driving conditions.
The collaboration complements existing cloud-based systems by providing local AI processing for third- and fourth-generation MBUX models. Mercedes-Benz and Liquid AI also plan to explore additional product development areas in the future.
