IDC Raises 2029 OCP Infrastructure Spending Forecast to $800 Billion

Oct 14, 2026
IDC projects annual spending on infrastructure recognized by the Open Compute Project will reach $800 billion in 2029 and $892 billion in 2030.

The Open Compute Project Foundation said in a press release that IDC projects annual spending on OCP recognized IT equipment will reach about $800 billion in 2029. That is 2.7 times the $295 billion estimate for 2029 in the previous annual study.

IDC expects spending to rise from about $154 billion in 2025 to $892 billion in 2030, representing annual growth of about 42%. OCP recognized equipment would account for around 51% of spending across the infrastructure categories covered by the study in 2030.

Servers are projected to represent about $814 billion of the 2030 total, with GPU accelerated systems driving much of the increase. AI related infrastructure would account for about $628 billion, or 70% of the forecast total. The study also covers storage, switches, IT racks, power, cooling, carrier equipment and peripherals.

The 2026 IDC Market Impact Study is commissioned each year by the OCP Foundation, which promotes the open hardware designs the forecast measures. IDC is a paid market research firm.
