Greece inaugurated Daedalus, a €58.9 million supercomputer for AI development and scientific research, according to eKathimerini. The system is installed at the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park southeast of Athens.

Daedalus delivers measured performance of 85.69 petaflops and has a peak rating of 115 petaflops. It ranks 31st on the TOP500 list of the world's most powerful computing systems and 23rd on the Green500 list for energy efficiency.

The system uses architecture from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, NVIDIA GH200 accelerators, and direct liquid cooling. It will provide computing resources to universities, research centers, and small and medium sized businesses developing AI applications.

Daedalus will also provide the computing infrastructure for PHAROS, Greece's AI Factory. GRNET coordinates PHAROS as part of the European AI Factories network.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at the inauguration that the Greek government must build its own AI infrastructure to avoid depending on computing resources controlled by others. Testing and technical adjustments follow the inauguration.
