Google Releases Android CLI for AI Agent-Based App Development
Google has released the stable version 1.0 of its Android CLI, a command line interface designed to support AI agents in Android app development, reports TechCrunch. The announcement was made during the company’s annual Google I/O developer conference.
The Android CLI allows AI agents such as Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and Google’s own Antigravity or Gemini in Android Studio to build Android applications directly through commands. Developers can use the new “android studio” command to access Android Studio’s capabilities within their own projects.
The tool provides a set of commands that enable AI agents to retrieve and apply Android development knowledge without requiring manual input from developers. Google’s Antigravity platform will also offer an optional bundle that installs Android CLI tools, allowing it to perform core Android app development tasks.
This release is part of Google’s broader effort to make Android development resources available to a growing ecosystem of AI coding agents, regardless of their origin or platform.
