Gannett Partners with Perplexity for AI Content Licensing

Gannett has announced a strategic agreement with Perplexity to license content from USA TODAY and its network of over 200 local publications, integrating it into Perplexity's AI-powered search experiences.

Gannett has announced a strategic agreement with Perplexity to license content from USA TODAY and its network of over 200 local publications, announced in a press release. This partnership makes Gannett one of the largest U.S.-based media partners in the Perplexity Publisher Program.

The agreement will see Gannett's premium content integrated into Perplexity's AI-powered search experiences, including its newly released agentic web browser, Comet. Comet, which is currently available to Perplexity Max and select Perplexity Pro subscribers, is expected to reach a broader audience starting in September.

As part of the deal, Gannett will also gain access to Perplexity's technology, including the Sonar API and Perplexity Enterprise Pro for all employees. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
