Financial Stability Board Finalises Responsible AI Practices for G20

The FSB is delivering finalised Sound Practices for the Responsible Adoption of AI to the G20, as its Chair flags AI valuation and cyber risks.

The Financial Stability Board has finalised its Sound Practices for the Responsible Adoption of AI and is delivering them to G20 finance ministers and central bank governors ahead of their 15 October meeting, the FSB said in a press release. In a letter to the G20, FSB Chair Andrew Bailey describes the practices as a toolkit adaptable to the size, type and level of AI adoption at financial institutions, spanning organisation wide AI governance, lifecycle management, cyber risk mitigation and the management of third party services.

Bailey restated risks he highlighted in August, including "the potential for a market reassessment of AI-related valuations to trigger a broader market correction" and "increasingly sophisticated AI-enabled cyber threats to the resilience of critical financial institutions and financial market infrastructures." He urged the G20 to champion the practices and said broader macroprudential issues may warrant continued consideration, with safe AI adoption remaining an important feature of the FSB's agenda next year.

The letter also introduces an FSB note on cross border vulnerabilities in global stablecoin arrangements, which finds that the interaction of national regulatory frameworks remains uncertain or undefined in many jurisdictions.
