Facebook Adds AI-Powered Animated Profiles and Post Backgrounds

Facebook, operated by Meta Platforms, Inc., has introduced new AI-powered features designed to expand creative options for users. The updates include animated profile photos, a photo restyling tool for Stories and Memories, and animated backgrounds for text posts.

The new animated profile photo feature applies motion effects to static images, allowing users to generate gestures such as waving or forming a heart shape. The feature works best with clear, front-facing photos and will receive additional animation options later in the year.

A new tool called Restyle has been added to Stories and Memories, enabling users to transform their photos using text prompts or preset themes like anime, illustrated, and ethereal. Users can also modify lighting, colors, and backgrounds such as beaches or cityscapes.

Facebook is also introducing animated backgrounds for text posts. By selecting a new rainbow “A” icon, users can choose from a range of still and animated designs, including seasonal options that will be added over time.

These updates continue Meta’s integration of AI features across its platforms, aiming to make content creation more dynamic and visually engaging for Facebook’s 2.1 billion daily users.
