EverWind Fuels plans a 420 megawatt AI data centre in Point Tupper, with the first phase scheduled to begin operating by the end of 2027.

EverWind Fuels plans a 420 megawatt AI data centre in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, according to CBC News. An unnamed AI company has agreed to lease the first phase for at least 20 years.

EverWind says the 95 megawatt first phase will come online by the end of 2027, followed by a 325 megawatt second phase in 2028. EverWind says it is raising $8 billion in private capital for the data centre and another $2 billion for four planned wind farms.

Existing generation on Nova Scotia's power grid will initially supply the facility. EverWind says it will pay for required grid upgrades and later use power from its planned wind farms.

The facility will use a closed loop water and glycol cooling system. EverWind estimates daily water use of 100,000 litres during the first phase and 500,000 litres after both phases are operating. A group of Mi'kmaw communities led by Membertou First Nation is negotiating a nine per cent equity stake in the project.
