Ericsson and Google Cloud Launch 5G Core as a Service
Ericsson and Google Cloud have announced the launch of Ericsson On-Demand, a new platform delivering core network services as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. Announced in a press release, this platform is designed to help Communication Service Providers (CSPs) deploy, manage, and scale core network services efficiently.
Ericsson On-Demand leverages AI infrastructure and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) to provide telecom-grade reliability combined with the flexibility of public cloud services. The platform allows CSPs to provision core services in minutes, scale capacity as needed, and pay only for what they use, eliminating the need for upfront capital expenditure.
Key features of the platform include rapid provisioning, elastic scaling, and consumption-based billing. It also offers fully managed operations with AI-assisted troubleshooting and lifecycle automation, reducing operational overhead. The platform's secure architecture supports geo-restricted deployments and cloud-native firewalls, ensuring compliance with evolving security requirements.
This collaboration between Ericsson and Google Cloud aims to empower CSPs to innovate quickly and expand globally, providing a robust solution for deploying 5G core networks and tapping into new revenue streams.
