EnterpriseDB calls for data governance as AI energy demands rise

EnterpriseDB called for energy efficiency and data governance to be built into agentic AI infrastructure at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit, the company said in a press release. EDB said autonomous AI systems need governance at the data layer to keep information controlled, trusted and sovereign.

An EDB survey of 300 respondents found that 69% give energy more consideration than a year ago when selecting data and AI platforms. Reliability of supply ranked at 49%, while cost and energy efficiency each ranked at 48%.

EDB said its Postgres AI platform reduces compute use, consolidates workloads and limits data movement. Company benchmarks found token consumption reductions of up to 57% for one customer. An independent analysis of three larger customers operating more than 120 data centers found up to 94% fewer compute cores and expected emissions reductions of up to 87% in one case.

The company is also developing a carbon calculator and offers a public Efficiency Calculator. EDB Postgres AI is currently used in production by about 1,700 customers worldwide.
