Elea Partners with Oracle and Rio de Janeiro for Data Center Project
Elea Data Centers has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Rio de Janeiro and Oracle Corporation to advance the Rio AI City project, a state-of-the-art data center hub located in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park. The agreement was publicly signed on August 14 during the Rio Innovation Week event, announced in a press release.
The MoU was signed by Alessandro Lombardi, President and Founder of Elea Data Centers; Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro; and Alexandre Maioral, President of Oracle Brazil. The partnership aims to transform the Olympic Park into the largest data center hub in Latin America, with an initial capacity of 1.5 GW by 2027, potentially expanding to 3.2 GW by 2032.
The Rio AI City will be powered entirely by renewable energy and will feature direct connectivity to major global markets through high-capacity submarine cables. This strategic location is expected to attract companies seeking sustainable energy sources and robust infrastructure to support demanding AI and cloud workloads.
The project is supported by the City of Rio de Janeiro through various municipal bodies, and it positions Rio as a prime destination for companies looking to scale sustainably while reaching new markets.
