Einride Completes First Cabless Autonomous Border Crossing
Einride has successfully completed the world's first cabless electric autonomous border crossing from Sweden to Norway, announced in a press release. This milestone was achieved on behalf of PostNord as part of the EU co-founded MODI project, which aims to facilitate the safe rollout of autonomous transportation solutions in Europe.
The crossing took place at the Ørje border, with Einride's autonomous vehicle passing through Norwegian customs without a driver onboard. This was made possible through the integration of Einride's systems with Norway's digital customs solution, Digitoll, via its partner Q-Free. The demonstration highlights the potential for autonomous technology to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability in road freight.
The initiative is supported by Norwegian Customs due to its relevance in automating future operations. Einride's achievement underscores the company's commitment to advancing autonomous freight technology and its application in real-world scenarios.
