Dun & Bradstreet Survey Shows 97% of Businesses Running AI Projects but Only 5% Have Data Ready

May 04, 2026
A global survey by Dun & Bradstreet finds that while nearly all organizations are working on AI initiatives, only a small fraction say their data is ready to support them, highlighting data readiness as the main barrier to achieving consistent ROI.

Dun & Bradstreet announced in a press release that 97 percent of organizations worldwide now report active AI initiatives, but only five percent consider their data adequately prepared to support them. The findings come from the company's AI Momentum Survey, which gathered responses from 10,000 businesses across 32 countries during the first half of 2026.

According to the survey, 56 percent of organizations plan to increase AI investment within the next year, and 60 percent already see measurable returns. However, only 10 percent express high confidence in their ability to identify or mitigate AI-related risks. Key obstacles include limited data access, privacy and compliance issues, and inconsistent data quality.

Dun & Bradstreet stated that the main constraint to scaling AI is not model performance but the ability to maintain verified and continuously updated business identity across systems. The company noted that only a shared and consistent identity layer enables AI systems to act reliably on enterprise data.

The AI Momentum Survey is conducted quarterly to track adoption, investment, and outcomes of AI in enterprise settings.
