Shenzhen startup DexForce uses synthetic data to train humanoid robots in virtual environments, Reuters reports. The company creates digital versions of workplaces and tasks, varies objects and conditions during training, then transfers the learned skills to physical machines.

DexForce says simulation reduces the cost and time required to collect training data from people repeatedly performing physical movements. Its software models how objects move and interact, helping robots adapt to variations in their surroundings.

The company employs about 500 people and recently raised 1 billion yuan, or about $147 million, in a Series B round at a valuation above 10 billion yuan. Its industrial software is used by manufacturers including Toyota, Samsung, Panasonic, Foxconn, Haier and Hisense.
