Demis Hassabis has stepped down as CEO of Google DeepMind and will become DeepMind chair and Alphabet chief scientist. Koray Kavukcuoglu will lead the lab as senior vice president.
Demis Hassabis Steps Down as Google DeepMind CEO

Sir Demis Hassabis has stepped down as CEO of Google DeepMind, and will become chair of the lab and chief scientist of parent company Alphabet, according to the Financial Times.

Koray Kavukcuoglu, DeepMind's chief technology officer, will lead Google DeepMind as senior vice president. Hassabis co founded DeepMind in 2010 and shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work connected to AlphaFold, its protein structure prediction system.

Jeff Dean, Google's chief scientist and a longtime company engineer, is also leaving to start Discovery Loop. The startup will focus on research in machine learning, science, and engineering, with backing from Google.
