Delhi Police tender seeks AI equipped riot control vans
Delhi Police is seeking eight Vajra riot control vehicles under a tender estimated at about ₹5.47 crore. The documents were reviewed by the Internet Freedom Foundation, which said bidding closed on September 16, 2026, and no award was visible in the public record.
Each vehicle would carry a 4K pan tilt zoom camera on a roof mast and five additional 4K cameras. The specification also requires night vision, a computer with an Intel Core i7 processor or equivalent, a graphics processor for AI analytics, 1 TB of storage, wireless connectivity, GPS, and a roof platform for launching a drone from inside the vehicle.
The tender documents do not define which AI applications the vehicles will run. They also do not state what the cameras may record, how long footage may be stored, whether footage will enter the police command center or facial recognition system, or how the drone platform may be used.
The procurement file records approval to remove four older Vajra vehicles from service, while the tender seeks eight replacements. The foundation said it is filing information requests with Delhi Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs for the tender status, authorization for eight vehicles, and operating procedures covering the cameras, analytics system, and drone platform.
