Databricks has announced a $100 million investment in global data and AI education, alongside the launch of a free edition of its Data Intelligence Platform, announced in a press release. This initiative aims to address the industry-wide talent gap by providing free access to Databricks' tools and training resources for students, aspiring professionals, and academic institutions.

The new Databricks Free Edition offers users the ability to experiment with data and AI use cases on a single platform. It includes features such as executing SQL queries, creating data visualizations, and building AI applications using Mosaic AI. Users can also collaborate on data science and machine learning projects in shared notebooks, and access training content through Databricks Academy.

This educational push is supported by the Databricks University Alliance program, which provides free access to Databricks' tools and resources to over 1,200 institutions worldwide. The program aims to bridge the skills gap in data science, engineering, and AI by offering hands-on experience with industry-standard technologies like Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and MLflow.
