
CoreWeave and MERLIN Edged Open AI Data Center in Barcelona
CoreWeave and MERLIN Edged have inaugurated a new data center in Barcelona, featuring one of the first large-scale NVIDIA Hopper training and inference supercomputers in Spain. This facility, announced in a press release, was opened on May 13, 2025, by the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, and aims to enhance AI capabilities across Europe.
The data center, located at a 15MW site, will host 10,224 NVIDIA H200 Tensor Core GPUs with InfiniBand connectivity. Plans are in place to expand its capacity with a Blackwell supercomputer in 2026. This initiative is part of CoreWeave's $2.2 billion investment across Europe, focusing on AI cloud and high compute capacity powered by renewable energy.
MERLIN Edged, a collaboration between MERLIN Properties and Edged Energy, is known for its sustainable data centers that operate with zero water consumption and high efficiency. The Barcelona facility is linked to the Barcelona Cable Landing Station, providing robust connectivity to global markets and supporting the region's ambition to become a leading European AI hub.
