China's Generative AI User Base Reaches 515 Million by Mid-2025

China's generative AI users doubled to 515 million by June 2025, representing 36.5 percent of the population, according to a report by the China Internet Network Information Center.

China had 515 million generative artificial intelligence users as of June 2025, with the user base doubling within six months, according to a report released by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).

The figure represents an increase of 266 million users from December 2024, bringing the adoption rate to 36.5 percent nationwide. The report highlighted that Chinese-developed generative AI models are the most widely used, with applications spanning intelligent search, content creation, office assistance, and smart devices.

Generative AI is also being applied in sectors such as agriculture, industrial manufacturing, and scientific research. The findings were presented at the 2025 China Internet Infrastructure Resources Conference in Beijing.
