BT and Nscale to Develop UK Sovereign AI Data Centres with NVIDIA Infrastructure

BT and Nscale have announced plans to build sovereign AI data centres across the United Kingdom using NVIDIA full stack AI infrastructure, according to a press release. The collaboration aims to strengthen the UK's AI capability through trusted national networks that allow organisations to adopt AI securely and under local control.

Nscale intends to deploy up to 14 megawatts of AI data centre infrastructure across three existing BT sites. BT will provide infrastructure and connectivity for the facilities, which are expected to significantly expand the country's AI compute capacity in response to growing demand.

The project will extend BT Business’s sovereign platform to support AI services for public and private sector clients. It will enable organisations to run AI models within the UK, meet data residency and security requirements, and scale compute resources without upfront investment.

The initiative aligns with the UK Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan, which promotes economic growth through AI and data centre investment while maintaining national control. BT, Nscale, and NVIDIA are also founding members of the UK Sovereign AI Industry Forum, a coalition focused on advancing domestic AI infrastructure and skills.
