BCG Survey Finds CEOs and Boards Divided Over AI Implementation Speed
Boston Consulting Group found that 61% of CEOs believe their boards are rushing AI transformation, according to a press release. The findings come from the first edition of Split Decisions: The BCG CEOs and Boards Survey, which gathered responses from 625 leaders across companies with at least 100 million dollars in annual revenue.
The survey indicates that while both CEOs and boards agree on AI's strategic importance, they differ on implementation pace. Boards tend to favor faster adoption, while CEOs prefer a more cautious approach. Gaps in AI knowledge appear to influence these views, as board members who feel less confident about AI are more likely to think their organizations are moving too slowly.
Nearly 40% of CEOs say boards lack an informed view of how AI is reshaping growth strategies, and one-third believe boards overestimate what human capabilities AI can replace. Over half of CEOs report that boards need a better grasp of the gap between AI hype and operational reality. Meanwhile, boards want CEOs to communicate their AI strategies more effectively.
The study also shows consensus on the need for improved AI literacy at the governance level. Around 80% of both CEOs and board members agree that prospective board candidates should demonstrate measurable understanding of how AI can reshape their industries.
