Anthropic releases Claude Opus 5 for Claude and API
Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, a new AI model for the Claude chatbot service and its developer platform. The company said Opus 5 approaches the performance of Claude Fable 5 on many tasks while costing about half as much.
Claude Opus 5 is priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, matching the price of Claude Opus 4.8. It is now the default model for Claude Max subscribers and is also available across paid Claude plans, including Claude Pro.
The company is positioning Opus 5 for enterprises, knowledge workers, and developers. Claude Fable 5 remains the model for the most complex long running autonomous tasks.
Anthropic also added controls that let users adjust how much computing power Opus 5 uses for a task. Developers can change available tools during a conversation without invalidating the prompt cache, and API users can enable automatic fallbacks that route some blocked requests to another model.
