Alphabet and Sea Partner on AI Tools for Shopee and Garena
Alphabet’s Google and Southeast Asian tech company Sea Ltd have announced a strategic partnership to develop artificial intelligence tools for Sea’s e-commerce and gaming operations, reports Reuters.
The companies plan to build an AI agentic shopping prototype for Sea’s Shopee platform. The project is designed to move beyond simple query responses, enabling more complex shopping and workflow tasks. Shopee held a 52% market share in Southeast Asia’s e-commerce market in 2024, according to consultancy Momentum Works.
In addition to e-commerce, Google and Sea’s gaming arm Garena will apply AI solutions to improve productivity in game development. The companies said these tools aim to streamline development processes and enhance user engagement.
This partnership follows a 2024 collaboration between Shopee and YouTube in the region’s e-commerce market.
