Alibaba Cloud has led a $100 million investment in the Chinese humanoid robot startup X Square Robot, according to CNBC. This funding round also saw participation from HongShan, formerly Sequoia Capital China, and Meituan. The investment brings the total funding for X Square Robot to approximately $280 million.

X Square Robot, founded in December 2023, is focused on developing AI systems that enable robots to perform tasks autonomously. The company has recently unveiled its Quanta X2 robot, which is designed for household, service, and industrial applications. Additionally, the startup has released an open-source AI model named Wall-OSS, aimed at enhancing robotics software development.

The startup's Chief Operating Officer, Yang Qian, mentioned that while AI for robots still lags behind advancements in generative AI, the company is making strides in integrating AI with hardware. X Square Robot is already generating revenue from sales to schools, hotels, and retirement homes, and plans to prepare for an initial public offering next year.
