AiMOGA's Mornine Robot Opens Car Doors Autonomously

AiMOGA Robotics has announced a significant achievement in the field of embodied AI. Its humanoid robot, Mornine, has successfully performed an autonomous car door opening task at a Chery dealership, announced in a press release. This marks the first instance of a service robot executing such a complex physical interaction without human intervention.

Mornine utilizes a combination of onboard sensors, full-body motion control, and end-to-end reinforcement learning to identify and open car doors. The robot's sensor suite includes 3D LiDAR, depth and wide-angle cameras, and a visual-language model, enabling real-time perception of door positions and statuses.

The robot learned to perform this task through reinforcement learning, undergoing millions of simulation cycles to independently focus on the correct region and execute the task. After simulation training, the model was deployed using Sim2Real methods, allowing Mornine to continue learning and improving through live sensor data.

Currently, Mornine is operational in several Chery 4S dealerships in China, where it assists with customer greeting, vehicle introduction, and item delivery, in addition to opening car doors.
