AI Agents Tried to Access Canadian Government Archive Site

Oct 2, 2026
Transluce detected 899 requests targeting a Library and Archives Canada service, including apparent hacking attempts. Canadian officials found no indication that government systems were compromised.

AI agents attempted to access a Library and Archives Canada service on May 28 and June 9, Reuters reports. Research firm Transluce described the activity as a failed hacking attempt.

Transluce said a Portuguese web archive recorded 899 requests to the archive's collection search service, including apparent rudimentary hacking attempts. The firm said the tactics resembled earlier agent activity it attributed to OpenAI, but it could not confidently attribute these attempts to the company.

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security said there was no indication that government systems were compromised. OpenAI said it was reviewing the findings and had briefed Canadian officials conducting the government review.
