AI Adoption Leads to Significant Job Losses in the U.S.

August 05, 2025
The U.S. job market is experiencing significant job losses due to the rising adoption of artificial intelligence, with over 10,000 jobs cut in July alone.

The U.S. job market is facing substantial challenges as the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to rise. In July, more than 10,000 jobs were cut due to the increased use of generative AI technologies by private employers, according to a report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas. This firm has identified AI as one of the top five factors contributing to job losses in 2025.

The technology sector has been particularly affected, with over 89,000 job cuts announced, marking a 36% increase from the previous year. Since 2023, more than 27,000 job cuts have been directly linked to AI advancements. The impact is notably severe among younger workers, with a 15% decline in entry-level corporate job listings over the past year.

Other factors contributing to job losses include federal budget cuts linked to the Department of Government Efficiency, which have resulted in over 292,000 positions being eliminated this year. Additionally, the retail sector has seen a significant increase in layoffs, with more than 80,000 cuts announced through July, driven by tariffs and economic uncertainty.
