Zhipu AI has introduced AutoGLM Rumination, a free AI agent designed for tasks like research and travel planning, intensifying competition in China's AI market.

Zhipu AI has launched AutoGLM Rumination, a free AI agent designed to perform tasks such as deep research, web searches, travel planning, and report writing. This launch marks a significant step in China's competitive AI landscape, .

AutoGLM Rumination is powered by Zhipu's proprietary models, including the reasoning model GLM-Z1-Air and the foundation model GLM-4-Air-0414. The company claims that GLM-Z1-Air matches the performance of rival DeepSeek's R1 model while operating up to eight times faster and using only one-thirtieth of the computing resources.

The introduction of AutoGLM Rumination follows a surge in AI product releases in China, particularly after DeepSeek's earlier model launch, which was noted for its cost efficiency compared to U.S. counterparts. Unlike its competitor Manus, which charges up to $199 monthly, Zhipu's new AI agent is available free of charge through its official channels, including its GLM model website and mobile app.

Founded in 2019 as a spinoff from a Tsinghua University laboratory, Zhipu AI has quickly become a leading player in China's AI sector. The company has recently secured significant government-backed funding, including a 300 million yuan investment from the city of Chengdu.
