xAI Appoints Anthony Armstrong as CFO

Oct 7, 2025
Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, has appointed former Morgan Stanley banker Anthony Armstrong as its new Chief Financial Officer, according to the Financial Times.

xAI has appointed Anthony Armstrong, a former banker at Morgan Stanley, as its new Chief Financial Officer. Armstrong will oversee the financial operations of both xAI and the social media platform X, which were merged earlier this year. This appointment comes amid a series of executive departures from Elon Musk's ventures, including the recent resignation of xAI's previous CFO, Mike Liberatore.

According to the Financial Times, Armstrong has been working with xAI for several weeks and was formally appointed as CFO recently. He previously advised Musk during the acquisition of Twitter, now known as X, and has been a key figure in Musk's business dealings. Armstrong will replace Mahmoud Reza Banki, the current CFO of X, who is also leaving the company.

The appointment of Armstrong is part of Musk's broader strategy to strengthen the financial management of his companies as they navigate challenges such as executive turnover and financial restructuring.
