Ukrainian Drones Hit Sberbank Data Center Planned for Supercomputer

Oct 15, 2026
A Ukrainian drone attack hit Sberbank's Balakovo data center, while the bank said its systems and services continued operating normally.

Ukrainian drones struck Russia's largest data center on October 14, Reuters reports. The Balakovo facility is owned by Sberbank, which said its systems and services continued operating without disruption.

The attack followed three strikes on Yandex data centers in the previous week. Those facilities hosted all three operating Yandex supercomputers. Neither company has disclosed whether any supercomputers were damaged.

Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported in 2024 that the Balakovo site would host Russia's largest supercomputer, scheduled to begin operating in 2027. Sberbank and Yandex use Nvidia A100 chips in existing supercomputers, but Western sanctions make replacement hardware difficult and costly to obtain.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
