Tetrate announced in a press release the v1.0 release of Envoy AI Gateway, the first open source AI gateway built on the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's Envoy Gateway project. The release marks production maturity and includes contributions from maintainers at Bloomberg, Nutanix, and the broader Envoy community.

Envoy AI Gateway provides routing, governance, and extensibility for AI workloads using the same proxy technology employed by companies such as Databricks, Google, Lyft, Netflix, and Spotify. The gateway extends Envoy’s capabilities with native support for agentic traffic, adapting the trusted internet traffic proxy to the demands of AI infrastructure.

The initiative began when Bloomberg proposed the project within the Envoy Gateway community to improve routing and governance for generative AI workloads. First released in February 2025, the project has since matured through collaboration among Tetrate, Bloomberg, Nutanix, and the open source community, resulting in a stable codebase prepared for enterprise use.
