Palantir and London Mayor’s Office End Legal Fight Over £50 Million Police Contract
Palantir Technologies and the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) have ended their legal fight over a blocked £50 million Metropolitan Police contract, according to The Guardian. Both parties withdrew their allegations, avoiding a High Court trial scheduled for January.
Palantir sued MOPAC in June after London Mayor Sadiq Khan blocked a contract lasting two years. The contract would have used Palantir software to process intelligence for criminal investigations through a system called unified operational analytics.
MOPAC and Palantir said the decision to block the contract was based on procurement, governance, affordability and value for money considerations, rather than Palantir’s values or ethics. Each party will cover its own legal costs, with no admission of liability and no damages paid.
A new procurement process for the contract is underway. MOPAC agreed to treat Palantir fairly and equally if it submits a bid, but is not required to select the company.
