OpenAI Faces Product Delays Due to Capacity Challenges
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has announced that the company's new image-generation tool in ChatGPT is causing product delays due to capacity issues. In a series of posts on X, Altman explained that the popularity of the tool has led to unexpected demand, resulting in delays for new releases and occasional service disruptions.
Altman noted that OpenAI is working diligently to address these challenges, but users should anticipate delays and potential service slowdowns. The company has temporarily delayed the release of the image-generation tool for free ChatGPT users and disabled video generation for new users of Sora, OpenAI's suite of generative AI media tools.
The surge in demand has been significant, with ChatGPT reportedly adding a million new users in a single hour. Currently, ChatGPT boasts 500 million weekly users and 20 million paying subscribers. OpenAI is actively seeking additional GPU capacity to manage the increased load and ensure smoother operations moving forward.
