OpenAI Accuses Former Employee of Sharing Device Plans With Apple

OpenAI alleges that an employee who joined Apple transferred more than 100 files about an unreleased device and later presented the product to Apple executives.

OpenAI alleges that an employee who left for Apple transferred more than 100 files about an unreleased product to a personal account, reports The Guardian. The employee later presented the product to senior Apple executives, according to a federal court filing.

The allegation emerged in Apple's trade secret lawsuit against OpenAI, which claims former Apple employees took confidential information to OpenAI's hardware division. OpenAI denies Apple's claims and said it may file a countersuit based on the new allegation.

Apple said it has policies intended to prevent new employees from using confidential information from previous employers and found no evidence supporting OpenAI's allegation. The filing delayed a court hearing scheduled for Wednesday. The case could go to trial in October 2027.
