Neurophet and VHIR Begin Joint Study on AI Imaging for Multiple Sclerosis

May 26, 2026
Neurophet has announced a collaboration with Spain’s Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca to advance AI algorithms for detecting multiple sclerosis lesions using MRI data. The study will use large datasets to validate Neurophet AQUA MS, which received FDA clearance in 2024.

Neurophet has announced in a press release a joint research collaboration with VHIR, the research institute of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in Spain, to develop and validate artificial intelligence algorithms for multiple sclerosis analysis.

The study will focus on Neurophet AQUA MS, a quantitative imaging software module designed to detect multiple sclerosis lesions based on magnetic resonance imaging. VHIR will contribute de-identified brain MRI data and expert-annotated lesion labels from over 1,000 patients. Using this dataset, Neurophet will train and validate algorithms for detecting imaging biomarkers such as the Central Vein Sign and Paramagnetic Rim Lesions.

Neurophet AQUA MS is part of the company’s Neurophet AQUA brain imaging analysis platform and received FDA 510(k) clearance in October 2024. The company stated that the collaboration will help accelerate the development of clinically validated AI technology for use in regions with higher multiple sclerosis prevalence, including the United States and Europe.
