Mistral AI in Talks for $1 Billion Funding with MGX
Mistral AI, Europe's largest AI startup, is reportedly in discussions to secure up to $1 billion in equity funding from several investors, including Abu Dhabi's MGX, according to Bloomberg. Alongside this equity financing, Mistral is also negotiating hundreds of millions of euros in debt from French lenders, including existing investor Bpifrance.
The discussions are still in preliminary stages and subject to change, with no clear indication of Mistral's valuation post-investment. If successful, this deal would further strengthen the ties between France and the United Arab Emirates in the AI sector, a field currently dominated by the US and China.
Founded in 2023, Mistral AI has already raised over €1 billion, reaching a valuation of €5.8 billion after a funding round last year. The company is central to French President Emmanuel Macron's push for AI sovereignty and has partnered with MGX and Nvidia to build Europe's largest AI data center campus.
