Microsoft and NVIDIA will invest up to a combined $15 billion in Anthropic, according to a joint announcement by the companies. The deal also includes Anthropic's commitment to purchase $30 billion of computing capacity from Microsoft Azure.

The investment will be part of Anthropic’s next funding round. As part of the arrangement, Nvidia will contribute up to $10 billion, while Microsoft will invest up to $5 billion. Nvidia’s technology will support Anthropic’s AI infrastructure, with the company gaining access to as much as one gigawatt of computing capacity powered by Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin chip designs.

Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, develops the Claude chatbot and other AI models used by enterprise clients. The company recently raised $13 billion at a $183 billion valuation and says it serves about 300,000 business customers. Anthropic plans to spend $50 billion on custom data centers in the U.S. to expand its AI infrastructure.

The new partnership strengthens Anthropic’s relationship with Microsoft, which has also invested heavily in OpenAI. Anthropic’s models will be made available on Microsoft’s cloud services, and the companies said they plan to collaborate on integrating Anthropic’s AI capabilities into Microsoft’s ecosystem. Nvidia engineers will work directly with Anthropic to optimize future chip designs for the startup’s AI software and services.
